Now, illustration is a medium of reproduction. Anyone who can seen Hirschfield’s orginal drawings can see all the pro-white corrections that the printing press took out. Still, many illustrators forget that they don’t really have to create an “orginal”. One of my favorite tricks is to lighty photocopy pencil art and then experiment with the pen ink on top. Since it all gets scanned in anyway, I get to keep the look of hand-done ink without re-drawing every time.
