We all know Edward Gorey as the kindly macabe mind behind “The Addams Family”, but he was also art director of Doubleday books from 1953 to 1960. During which he designed, directed, and drew many overs for paperback editions. His sly, clever drawings and hip 50s design show just how dull current paperback designs are. Gorey is at his best doing historical novels, but few current editions can hold a candle to these witty doddles.
