This book is usually thrown at any one who says “I want to be an illustrator!” And on the surface, it appears to be a good choice. A phone-book type listing of companies that are seeking out illlustration, cartoons, designers, what have you.
However, in my years of buying every new edition and combing the listings, I have not gotten a single job out of it. Not one. The listings are too broad, general, and too cluttered with useless small publications that have allready gone out of business. While it is useful for getting the contact information for some big names, it’s just not worth it to buy the whole damn book. The only way I have gotten work is by doing feild research in the bookstore. Get that cup of coffee, get that stack of magazines, and search for anyplace that looks like a good fit.
