Wako Jako

Since printing costs make up a big chunk of the illustrator’s budget (Postcards and samples don’t materialize out of the ether) Having a good printing service is cruical. I use
Jak Prints Fast, cheaper than most, and fully loaded with options.

What is: On Spec

Occasionally, young Illustrators will be asked to do a piece “On spec”. Know these words and fear, young padawan. For on “spec is one of the slimiest things an Art director can do.

On Spec is when companies ask for a finished piece before they wil pay you. No assurance of payment, no contract. You create and then *maybe* they pay you. Would this work with a plumber? Artist Spotlight: Marc Burckhardt

Marc Burckhardt’s art comes from an alternate reality where Russian icon painters beatify rock stars and mexcian wrestlers. Strange and arcane, Burckhardt is known for his work in Rolling Stone. What swoony teenage girl didn’t cut out his prayer card of “St.Cobain”? Werid and masterfully done, we approve.

Check out an interview with Mr. Burckhardt in the latest issue of 3×3.
